Gelclair is a brand-name prescription oral gel that helps relieve or prevent pain in the mouth due to oral mucositis, mouth sores, or swelling of the mouth It is primarily prescribed to patients who are undergoing cancer chemotherapy or radiation therapy both of which can cause oral mucositis, a condition in which the lining of the mouth (the mucus membranes) break down and sores form. Oral mucositis typically starts a few days to a week after the start of cancer therapy and can last for up to two weeks.
