Is there a generic of Numoisyn?
Numoisyn was a brand-name prescription artificial saliva or saliva replacer. Numoisyn Liquid contained linseed extract as a saliva replacement and Numoisyn Lozenges used sorbitol and malic acid to stimulate the secretion of saliva in the mouth. There are no generic or brand-name linseed oil dry mouth liquids, although generic linseed oil is still used as a home remedy for dry mouth.
Sorbitol, which has about 2/3 the calories of sucrose (sugar) and contributes to blood glucose levels, is rarely used in dry mouth lozenges or gum. It has been replaced by xylitol which has slightly fewer calories and has the same effects as sorbitol and sugar in stimulating saliva production. Xylitol and malic acid dry mouth remedies are widely available as gums, lozenges, or mouth sprays as both brand-name and generic products.
What is Numoisyn?

Numoisyn was discontinued by its manufacturer. It was rumored that it would transition to an over-the-counter drug, but it is still unavailable for purchase in the United States.
