Ilevro is an FDA-approved drug that is manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. There is no generic version of Ilevro currently on the U.S. market.
Ilevro is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug indicated to treat pain and inflammation after cataract surgery (eye surgery). It is available as a 0.3% sterile ophthalmic suspension.
Ilevro is applied to the affected eye using an eyedropper. After application, the drug penetrates the cornea of the eye and is then converted to another NSAID, amfenac. Nepafenac and amfenac help block the action of a certain enzyme called prostaglandin H synthase, which is responsible for the production of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are natural substances that play a role in pain and swelling.
Ilevro is approved for use by patients who are 10 years of age or older. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before using Ilevro.
You should only use Ilevro as directed by your primary healthcare provider. You should tell your primary healthcare provider about any prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are currently using.
You should always keep this medication out of reach of children and pets. Ilevro should be stored at room temperature away from light and moisture.
Prolonged use of Ilevro may increase the risk of having serious side effects. Common side effects of Ilevro include blurred vision, reduced vision, loss of vision, a sticky sensation in the eye, a feeling of something stuck in the eye, and increased intraocular pressure. Ilevro may also cause dry eye, eye pain, swelling of the eye, and redness of the eye.
You should talk to your doctor if you experience any unusual side effects after using Ilevro since this is not a complete list of side effects. You should get medical attention or medical advice if you notice signs of an allergic reaction after use, such as severe rash, swelling, or trouble breathing.
Ilevro may cause an increased risk of bleeding in the ocular tissues after surgery. There may also be an increased risk of delayed or slowed healing after using topical NSAIDs, especially in combination with topical steroids.
Consult your healthcare provider on other possible side effects, warnings, and precautions before using Ilevro.
