What is the brand name of Jantoven?

Jantoven is a generic prescription drug manufactured by Upsher-Smith. It is also known by its generic name, warfarin, and the brand name, Coumadin, but Coumadin is no longer commercially available. If you need information or savings coupons for Coumadin or warfarin, search the SingleCare website or app.

What is Jantoven?

Jantoven is a prescription drug that prevents or treats blood clotting in patients who have had a heart attack, cardiac valve replacement surgery, or who are at risk of developing blood clots. Blood clots can cause serious and potentially life-threatening conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, heart attack, and stroke.

The active ingredient in Jantoven, warfarin, works by blocking the action of blood clotting proteins and so prevents blood clots from forming.

Jantoven is taken as an oral tablet. Before you take Jantoven, review your medical conditions and history with your doctor. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including Rx and OTC medicines, vitamins, and supplements, as Jantoven can interact with certain drugs. Also, talk about your dietary habits with your doctor, as some foods can affect Jantoven. Your doctor will monitor your bloodwork regularly while you are taking Jantoven. If you are having any surgery, procedures, or dental work, you may need to temporarily stop taking Jantoven for a few days. Call your doctor for instructions. Wear a medical alert that states you take warfarin.

What are the side effects of Jantoven?

Jantoven prevents blood clotting, so bleeding problems are commonly experienced and are the cause of many of the serious side effects of Jantoven, such as bruising, bleeding, dark urine, bloody stools, bleeding gums, coughing up blood, and pale skin. Get emergency medical help if you have bleeding that will not stop.

Other common side effects of Jantoven include, but are not limited to, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, fatigue, headache, stomach pain, gas, and bloating.

Allergic reactions to Jantoven are rare. If you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling around the face and mouth, get emergency medical help right away.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions.
