Chlordiazepoxide-clidinium is the generic version of the brand-name antibiotic Librax. Librax is manufactured by Bausch Health Companies Inc. Our SingleCare discount card can also be used to save on the generic.
Librax is available in the form of a capsule. It treats bowel infections, irritable bowel syndrome, stomach ulcers, and other symptoms related to intestinal infection. This medication works to relax the muscles in the stomach and intestines, and slows down the movement of the gut.
Stomach and intestinal cramping are reduced by clidinium while chlordiazepoxide works to reduce anxiety levels. Librax affects the unbalanced chemicals in the brain, producing a calming effect and reduces stomach acid and spasms.
Librax is a controlled substance, so it has the potential for addiction. Only use as prescribed by your doctor to lower the risk of addiction. Your risk of addiction is higher if you have a substance use disorder. It is not recommended to use this medication if you have a bladder obstruction, an enlarged prostate, glaucoma, problems with urination, or if you are allergic to clidinium or chlordiazepoxide.
Before taking Librax, tell your doctor about your medical conditions and history. Tell your doctor about all of the medications you take, including Rx and OTC medicines, vitamins, and supplements. Librax can make your breathing slow or stop, especially if you have recently taken an opioid pain medicine (or other drugs that slow breathing) or consumed alcohol. Keep Librax where others cannot get to it. Librax misuse can cause overdose, addicition, or death.
Some common side effects of Librax are drowsiness, impaired coordination, confusion, dry mouth, blurred vision, difficulty urinating, constipation, swelling, and nausea. It is recommended to eat dietary fiber, exercise, and drink plenty of water to prevent constipation.
Librax can form an addiction if not taken properly. Never take more of Librax or for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor. If Librax is stopped suddenly, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, or seizures. If side effects worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
Allergic reactions to Librax are rare. Get emergency medical attention if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, trouble breathing, or swelling around the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions.
