Mesnex Coupons & Prices

Mesna

Mesnex is a brand-name prescription drug used to prevent bleeding and swelling of the urinary bladder caused by chemotherapy with ifosfamide (Ifex) or cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan). Both of these cancer drugs, when metabolized by the body, produce a chemical that concentrates in the bladder and causes cell death, swelling, sores, and bleeding in the bladder. The active ingredient in Mesnex, mesna, helps remove this substance from the bladder. The retail price for Mesnex is $126.99. Ask the clinic or hospital where you receive your Mesnex infusion if they will accept a SingleCare Mesnex coupon; you could pay $13.35.

How much does Mesnex cost with insurance?

Your copay will vary depending on your plan and the price charged for Mesnex by the hospital or clinic where you get your injection and follow-up tablets. However, Mesnex may be covered by your health insurance as a medical benefit rather than a prescription drug benefit. Ask the clinic or hospital where you receive your Mesnex injection if they will accept a SingleCare Mesnex coupon. If they do, you could pay $13.35.

Does Medicare cover Mesnex and how much does it cost?

Mesnex is usually not covered under Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage prescription drug plans, but is covered under Medicare Part B as a medical benefit. Is there a generic of Mesnex?

Mesnex is a brand-name prescription drug with the active ingredient, mesna or coenzyme M, and is administered as an injection followed by two tablets. Generic mesna is available, but only as an injection.

What is Mesnex?

Mesnex is a brand-name prescription drug used to prevent bleeding and swelling of the urinary bladder caused by chemotherapy with ifosfamide (Ifex) or cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan).

When the body breaks down ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide, one of the substances produced is acrolein. This chemical concentrates in the bladder and kills the cells in the tissue lining the inside of the bladder, producing sores and bleeding in the bladder.

When the body breaks down mesna, the active ingredient in Mesnex, one of the substances produced attaches to acrolein in the bladder, making it easier for the body to excrete it through urination. Ifosfamide breaks down into a second chemical that is toxic to the bladder. Mesna removes that chemical, as well.

Mesnex is administered as three injections or one injection and two tablets on the day that cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide is administered. The first is given when the chemotherapy drug is administered, the second a few hours later, and the third a few hours after that.

What are the side effects of Mesnex?

Most people will experience site reactions to the injection, such as pain, redness, or irritation. In general, the common side effects of Mesnex include, but are not limited to, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, swelling, drowsiness, stomach pain, chest pain, and pale skin.

Serious side effects include low blood pressure, anemia, and low potassium.

Allergic reactions are rare, but can be severe and include anaphylaxis, a dangerous drop in blood pressure, and severe skin reactions. Tell your physician if you notice fever, sore throat, rash, swelling of the face or mouth, racing heartbeats, mouth sores, or trouble breathing.

This is not a complete list of possible side effects. Please be sure to consult with your prescribing physician about possible side effects of Mesnex and any other concerns you may have.
