Mytesi is a brand-name prescription medicine manufactured by Napo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. A generic version of this drug currently is not available by any pharmaceutical company.
This FDA-approved medication is used to relieve symptoms of noninfectious diarrhea in HIV/AIDS patients who are on antiretroviral therapy to treat HIV infection. Mytesi may help to reduce the number of watery stools you have and help you better tolerate your HIV medications. It works by preventing water and minerals from entering your intestines, which causes stools to be more solid. This medication should not be used to treat infectious diarrhea.
This antidiarrheal medication is available in the form of an oral delayed-release tablet. Use this medication twice daily with or without meals. Swallow the tablets whole; do not crush or chew them. Doing so may release the medication too quickly into your body and could lead to unwanted side effects. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.
Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Try taking it at the same time every day to help yourself remember. It may take up to several months before you get the full benefit from this drug. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens after using Mytesi.
Common side effects of Mytesi may include cough, sore throat, runny nose, or sneezing. Notify your doctor right away if these effects persist or worsen. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, it means that they have judged the benefits to you as being greater than the risk of side effects. Most patients using this medication do not experience serious side effects.
Serious allergic reactions to this medication are usually rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.
Ask your doctor or healthcare provider for professional medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Mytesi as this is not a complete list of side effects.
