How to take Phospha 250 Neutral

  • Follow the prescriber’s instructions and dosage. Do not use more than directed.

  • Take Phospha 250 Neutral tablets four times daily.

  • Take the first three doses with a meal. Take the last dose at bedtime.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

  • Store the tablets in a light-resistant container at room temperature.

What to do if you miss a dose of Phospha 250 Neutral

  • Ask the prescriber or pharmacist what to do if a dose is missed.

Phospha 250 Neutral contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. 

  • Do not use it if you have had an allergic reaction to any ingredients in the tablet or have:

    • Infected phosphate stones

    • Severe kidney impairment

    • High phosphate levels (hyperphosphatemia)

Phospha 250 Neutral warnings

  • The prescriber will need regular visits and blood or urine tests to monitor treatment. Keep all appointments.

  • Tell the prescriber if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have:

    • Heart disease

    • Kidney problems

    • Severe liver problems

    • Dehydration

    • Fluid retention (peripheral or pulmonary edema)

    • High sodium levels

    • High blood pressure

    • Preeclampsia

    • Swollen pancreas

    • Adrenal gland problems including Addison’s disease

    • Underactive parathyroid gland

    • Rickets

    • Myotonia congenita, a hereditary condition characterized by stiff muscles

  • People with kidney stones might pass those stones when first taking Phospha 250 Neutral.

  • When first started, Phospha 250 Neutral tablets may have a mild laxative effect for the first few days. 

  • High-dose sodium phosphate and potassium phosphate supplements can have serious side effects including:

    • High phosphate levels

    • High sodium levels

    • High potassium levels

    • Weak bones (osteomalacia)

  • Know the symptoms of possible electrolyte imbalances and contact a healthcare professional if they are experienced.

Phospha 250 Neutral interactions

  • Tell the prescriber about all the medications and supplements you take, particularly:

    • Blood pressure drugs (particularly ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, guanethidine, hydralazine, diazoxide, and methyldopa)

    • Corticosteroids, particularly fludrocortisone or corticotropin

    • Rauwolfia alkaloid drugs or supplements such as reserpine, yohimbine (yohimbe), or serpentina (Indian snakeroot).

    • Potassium-sparing diuretics such as spironolactone or triamterene

    • Potassium supplements or salt substitutes

    • Calcium-containing supplements or medications

    • Vitamin D supplements or medications

    • Cyclosporine, digoxin, tacrolimus

  • Tell the prescriber if you are on a salt-restricted or low-potassium diet.

  • Do not take an antacid that contains aluminum, calcium, or magnesium while taking Phospha 250 Neutral. Antacids may decrease the absorption or effectiveness of phosphate supplements.

Serious side effects

Talk to a doctor if you notice any signs or symptoms of a possible serious side effect including:

  • Headaches, dizziness, confusion, seizures

  • Weakness, tiredness, cramping

  • Feeling numb or tingly in the feet, hands, or lips

  • Fast or irregular heartbeat, trouble breathing, shortness of breath

  • Swelling of the feet or ankles, unusual weight gain

  • Decrease in how much or how often you urinate

  • Bone pain, joint pain

Less serious side effects

  • Diarrhea

  • Nausea

  • Stomach pain

  • Vomiting
