What is Proquad?

Proquad is a brand-name vaccine that provides active immunity from measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox), or MMRV vaccine. These are different types of unrelated viral infections. The active ingredients are attenuated (weakened) live virus particles. These live virus particles are sterile and so are unable to cause an infection. However, they stimulate the production of antibodies against the viruses to create immunity in the patient.

Proquad is injected beneath the skin in one or two doses. The first dose is administered as an injection between the ages of 12 and 15 months. The second dose, if needed, is administered as an injection between the ages of 4 and 6 years.
