What is Teflaro?

Teflaro is an FDA-approved prescription antibiotic medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including skin infections or pneumonia caused by bacteria. This medication is known as a cephalosporin antibiotic, and if you have an allergy to cephalosporins, you should not take this medication. The active ingredient in this drug is Ceftaroline and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Teflaro is given by injection into a vein as directed by your doctor, usually every eight to twelve hours. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, your age and weight, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.

If you are taking this medication at home, ensure that you learn all preparation and usage instructions from your healthcare professional. Check this product visually for particles and discoloration before use. If either is present, do not use the liquid. For the best effect, use this antibiotic at evenly spaced times.

What are the side effects of Teflaro?

Common side effects include pain, redness, and swelling at the injection site. Nausea and diarrhea may also occur. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if these effects persist or worsen.

In rare cases, this medication may cause a severe intestinal condition known as clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea due to resistant bacteria. This condition may occur during treatment or weeks to months after treatment has stopped. Tell your doctor right away if you develop persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, cramping, and blood or mucus in your stool.

Ask your doctor or healthcare provider for professional medical advice, drug information and drug interactions involved with using Teflaro, as this is not a complete list of side effects.
