Tice Bcg is a brand-name prescription drug manufactured by Merck. There is currently no generic alternative available.
This FDA-approved medication is used as a treatment for a certain type of bladder cancer known as carcinoma in situ (CIS). It may also be used to prevent another type of bladder cancer, known as a papillary tumor, from returning after surgery to remove it. Tice Bcg works by causing the body's defense system to become more active.
Tice Bcg vaccine is administered into the bladder through a tube known as a catheter. This procedure is done by a healthcare professional and is usually given weekly for the first six weeks and then less often as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.
Do not consume any fluids for at least four hours before treatment. Tice Bcg is left in the bladder for up to two hours and then released by urinating. Since the urine contains live bacteria that may infect you or others, you must sit down to urinate for six hours after treatment to avoid splashing of urine. Pour household bleach into the toilet and wait 15 minutes before flushing. Drink plenty of fluids after your first urination, unless advised differently by your doctor. Doing so will help to clear the medication from your body.
Tice Bcg may cause unwanted side effects such as bladder irritation, fever, chills, and painful urination. You may also experience nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or diarrhea. Tell your doctor or healthcare professional right away if these effects persist or worsen.
A serious allergic reaction to this medication is rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.
Check with your doctor or healthcare provider for professional medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Tice Bcg as this is not a complete list of side effects.
