What is Tobi?

Tobi is an inhalation solution that contains tobramycin. It is used to treat bacterial infections, such as those caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, in patients with cystic fibrosis. Tobramycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycosides antibiotics. It works by blocking the ability of bacteria to produce certain proteins necessary for growth. In effect, this antibiotic destroys the bacteria causing an infection. Tobi is available as a 300 mg/5 mL inhalation solution in a single-dose ampule. It is approved to treat adults and children aged 6 years and older. Tobi is taken twice daily for 28 days followed by a 28-day period of not using the medication. Doses are usually taken 12 hours apart and administered through a nebulizer or inhalation device.
