Is there a generic of Venelex?
Venelex is a brand-name skin emollient and wound barrier with castor oil and balsam Peru as the active ingredients, both of which are common ingredients in other brand-name (Dermulcera) and generic (balsam Peru-castor oil ointment) prescription wound barriers. Most commonly, however, wound barriers combine balsam Peru and castor oil with trypsin, which helps remove dead skin cells from the wound (Vasolex). You can research and find coupons for all these products on the SingleCare website or app.
What is Venelex?
Venelex is a prescription liquid wound barrier and skin moisturizer that covers and protects pressure wounds, such as bed sores. Venelex provides a moist wound and skin environment that helps the healing process and prevents cracking around the edges of sores.
The active ingredients in Venelex, balsam Peru and castor oil have been widely used for wound dressing for several decades. Balsam Peru increases blood flow to the skin tissues. Castor oil prevents skin cells from breaking down and helps speed the healing process. Venelex also includes glycerin, a skin moisturizer, or humectant that draws moisture up into the outer layers of the skin.
Venelex is an ointment that is applied to the affected skin.
What are the side effects of Venelex?
The most common side effects of Venelex are largely temporary reactions on the treated area, such as irritation, itching, stinging, or burning. Balsam Peru allergies are relatively common, so watch for hives, rash, swelling, or trouble breathing and discontinue using Venelex if you encounter signs of an allergic reaction.
