What is Xerac AC?
Xerac AC is a brand-name prescription topical antiperspirant with 6.5% aluminum chloride hexahydrate as the active ingredient. Aluminum chloride hexahydrate is usually only used in clinical-strength antiperspirants (12%-15%), available without a prescription, or prescription-strength antiperspirants (more than 15%), but Xerac AC has a lower concentration than most over-the-counter alternatives. Xerac AC is prescribed to patients with excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis.
An antiperspirant blocks the ability of sweat glands to produce sweat, as opposed to a deodorant, which masks or eliminates odor. When Xerac AC is applied to the skin and the sweat glands produce sweat, the water dissolves the aluminum chloride and pulls it back down into the sweat pore. The aluminum chloride builds up in the sweat pores and eventually blocks them. The blockage causes the sweat glands to stop producing sweat
Xerac AC is applied as a liquid to the affected area once daily at bedtime for three days or until excessive sweating is under control. Xerac AC is then applied once or twice per week following the prescribing doctor's instructions. Other antiperspirants or deodorants should not be used with Xerac AC.
