What causes sciatic nerve pain?

Sciatic nerve pain is caused by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve. This can happen when the nerve gets pinched by a herniated disc, excess body weight, poor posture, or, in rare cases, a tumor, leading to pain, numbness, or weakness that radiates from the lower back down the leg.
