How to take Ascor

What to do if you miss a dose of Ascor

  • Injection routeThrow away used needles in a hard, closed container that the needles cannot poke through. Keep this container away from children and pets.

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Ask your pharmacist, doctor, or health caregiver about the best way to dispose of any outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Ascor contraindications

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to ascorbic acid.

Ascor warnings

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, G6PD deficiency, or a history of kidney stones.

  • This medicine may cause the following problems:Kidney problems, including kidney stonesHemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) in patients with G6PD deficiency

  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Ascor interactions

  • Some medicines can affect how ascorbic acid works. Tell your doctor if you are using any of the following:Amphetamine, fluphenazineBlood thinner (including warfarin)Medicine to treat an infection (including bleomycin, doxycycline, erythromycin, kanamycin, lincomycin, streptomycin)

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking any blood thinners such as warfarin (Coumadin®).

  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

Ascor side effects

Serious Side Effects

  • Change in how much or how often you urinate, lower back or side pain

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Dark urine, stomach pain, fever, yellow eyes or skin

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed
