Chlordiazepoxide-clidinium is a generic prescription drug that helps people with gastrointestinal problems. It combines a benzodiazepine sedative (chlordiazepoxide) and a smooth muscle relaxant (clidinium). The benzodiazepine reduces anxiety while clidinium reduces both stomach acid and intestinal spasms. Doses are taken three to four times daily before meals and bedtime.

The prescriber will tell you how many capsules to take and how often to take them.
Take this medicine before meals and at bedtime.
Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.
Do not stop taking this medicine without first talking to the prescriber.
Store this medicine in a closed container at room temperature.
Ask the prescriber how to manage a missed dose.
You should not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.
This medicine is not right for everyone.
Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to chlordiazepoxide or clidinium or if you have:
Glaucoma
An enlarged prostate with bladder obstruction
Tell any doctor or other healthcare provider who treats you that you are using this medicine.
Checkups and blood tests may be necessary to see how well the treatment is working and to monitor for possible side effects. Keep all appointments.
Before starting this medicine, make sure the prescriber knows if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have:
Kidney problems
Liver problems
Eye problems
Problems urinating
Coordination problems
Bleeding problems
A history of depression, suicide, or mental health problems
A history of drug or alcohol abuse
Chlordiazepoxide-clidinium can harm a baby in the later stages of pregnancy. Immediately tell the prescriber if you become pregnant or think you’re pregnant while taking this drug.
This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
This medicine can be habit-forming. Do not use more than your prescribed dose. Call your doctor if you think your medicine is not working.
Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. The prescriber will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely.
Tell the prescriber about all the medications you take, particularly any MAO inhibitor or phenothiazine antipsychotic.
Do not use drugs that make you sleepy such as opioids, other benzodiazepines, or sleeping medications until you’ve talked to the prescriber.
Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.
Serious side effects
Talk to a doctor if you notice any signs or symptoms of a possible serious side effect including:
Slow or shallow breathing, irregular breathing, excessive sleepiness
Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
Severe confusion, drowsiness, weakness
Clumsiness, trouble with coordination
Delirium, paranoia, suicidal thoughts, trouble breathing, seizures
Unusual movements, depression, seeing or hearing things that aren’t there, delusions, depression, trouble sleeping, insect crawling sensations, burning sensations, ringing in the ears
Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing, rapid heart rate
