What is Lidorx?

Lidorx is a prescription ointment that relieves pain or discomfort due to skin injury, nerve pain, medical procedures, injections, eczema, scrapes, minor burns, insect bites, hemorrhoids, anal tears, allergies, or skin irritation. Lidorx also provides temporary relief for muscle pain.

The active ingredient in Lidorx, lidocaine, is a local anesthetic which shuts down nerve signals, numbing the area it is applied to. As a result, Lidorx temporarily relieves pain at the site of the wound or burn.

One to four pumps of Lidorx are applied to the affected area three or four times a day. Lidocaine, when absorbed into the body, can have serious side effects, so do not exceed 16 pumps in a 24 hour period. Read the side effects section for more information about possible side effects.

What are the side effects of Lidorx?

Site reaction is a common side effect of Lidorx, which include stinging, burning, itching, redness, or tenderness.

Lidocaine, the active ingredient in Lidorx, can be absorbed into the body, especially if Lidorx is overused. Lidorx is only meant to be used on a small patch of skin a couple of times a day. Always follow the instructions given to you by your doctor or written on the medication's packaging. Common side effects of overuse of Lidorx or rapid absorption of the active ingredient include, but are not limited to, headache, nausea, vomiting, tremor, ringing in the ears, double vision, and drowsiness. Mental and mood changes include lightheadedness, nervousness, apprehension, euphoria, and confusion. The most serious side effects of lidocaine absorbed into the body are low blood pressure, seizures, unconsciousness, respiratory depression, slow heartbeat, and cardiac arrest if Lidorx is recklessly overused.

Allergic reactions are possible and could be severe, including anaphylaxis, a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Discontinue use at the first sign of an allergic reaction, such as rash, swelling, or trouble breathing.
