What is Azstarys?

Azstarys is a central nervous system stimulant that’s FDA approved to treat ADHD. It’s a combination medication that contains serdexmethylphenidate and dexmethylphenidate. Azstarys is a once-daily capsule that’s classified as a Schedule II controlled substance due to its risk of abuse, misuse, and addiction.

What are the side effects of Azstarys?

The most common side effects of Azstarys are decreased appetite, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Other side effects include anxiety, mood swings, irritability, and dizziness.

Azstarys can also cause serious side effects. These may include sudden death in people who have heart problems, increased blood pressure and heart rate, prolonged and painful erections, serious allergic reactions, and mental problems. It’s important to note that Azstarys has a boxed warning about the risk of abuse, misuse, and addiction. Misuse and abuse of CNS stimulants can cause serious side effects, including overdose and death. To lower this risk, be sure to take Azstarys exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. You should not give Azstarys to anyone else to use, and store it in a safe place where it cannot be accessed by children or pets.

Why is Azstarys better than Adderall?

Azstarys and Adderall are both brand-name CNS stimulants approved by the FDA to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but they contain different active ingredients. Azstarys contains serdexmethylphenidate and dexmethylphenidate, while Adderall contains mixed amphetamine salts.

While both drugs have been proven to be safe and effective for ADHD, Azstarys and Adderall have risks and warnings associated with their use. For example, Azstarys can cause prolonged erections, while Adderall can cause seizures. Both drugs have a risk of misuse, abuse, and addiction and can increase your blood pressure and heart rate.

Ultimately, your doctor can provide medical advice regarding which treatment is best for you based on your medical history, medicine list, and how severe your condition is.
