What is My Way?

My Way is an emergency contraception pill for women who have had unprotected sex or who have used contraceptives that have failed during sex. It is available over-the-counter.

My Way's active ingredient, levonorgestrel, is a synthetic progestin–a naturally occurring hormone in women–that both prevents ovulation and changes the lining of the uterus to prevent the attachment of a fertilized egg.

My Way is meant to be taken as a single dose within 72 hours of unprotected sex. My Way does not provide any contraceptive benefit if the fertilized egg has already attached to the uterus, so the drug loses its contraceptive efficacy quickly after the first 24 hours following unprotected sex.
