Memantine HCl-Donepezil HCl is the brand name of a combination drug that contains donepezil and memantine. It is manufactured by Allergan Inc.; however, there is not a cheaper, generic version available as of yet.
Namzaric is made of two drugs. The first drug is donepezil, which is a member of the cholinesterase inhibitors drug class. Donepezil is an enzyme blocker that works by restoring the balance of natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain.
The other drug is memantine, which is classified as a glutamate regulator. Memantine works by blocking the action of glutamate, which is believed to be linked to symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
Namzaric can be taken with or without food in the evening, just before your bedtime. Be sure to swallow the capsules whole or you can open and sprinkle the contents on applesauce before use. Do not chew, crush, or divide the capsules. There is no evidence that this prescription drug prevents or slows the underlying disease process in patients with Alzheimer's.
If you use Namzaric, you may experience common side effects such as headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, and bruising. Other, less common side effects may include seizures or difficulty passing urine. Also in rare cases, your heartbeat may become slow which can cause fainting. Your body may also produce more stomach acid and this raises the chance of stomach ulcers and bleeding while taking Namzaric.
Tell your doctor if you have any medical problems, including heart problems, asthma, seizures, stomach ulcers, bladder, kidney, or liver problems. Your healthcare provider should also know about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines. Be sure to inform your healthcare provider if you experienced any of the negative side effects listed above. You can also report your negative side effects to the FDA by calling the phone number 1-800-FDA-1088.
Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice.
