Natacyn (natamycin ophthalmic) is a member of the ophthalmic anti-infectives drug class and is commonly used for fungal infections of the eye. It should be noted that this prescription drug only treats fungal eye infections and will not work for other types of eye infections.
This antifungal drug should not be used for longer than prescribed or should not be used for a shorter period than has been prescribed to you. Improper use of Natacyn can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
If you are wearing contact lenses you should not use this medication while wearing them. Natacyn may contain a preservative that can discolor soft contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using Natacyn before putting in your contact lenses. Be sure not to touch the tip of the eye dropper or place it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper can infect your eye, which could lead to serious vision problems.
If your symptoms do not improve after seven to 10 days of treatment, or if you have a fever with a headache, cough, or skin rash then stop taking Natacyn and contact your healthcare provider.
Eye discomfort, tearing, watery eyes, or feeling like something is in your eye are some of the more common side effects that you may experience while using Natacyn. Less common side effects can include vision changes, eye redness, swelling, or other irritation, eye pain or numbness, or chest pain, trouble breathing.
