What is Questran?
Questran, along with changes in diet, is a prescription oral medication used to reduce cholesterol levels in patients who have not succeeded in reducing cholesterol by modifying their diet. Questran belongs to a class of drugs called bile acid seQuestrans, that work by helping the body eliminate bile acid and preventing the intestines from reabsorbing bile acid. This prompts the liver to convert cholesterol to bile acids, and helps lower cholesterol levels. Questran is a powder and is always mixed with water or another liquid before taking.
