What is Twinrix?

Twinrix is a combination vaccine that is used to prevent infections from the hepatitis A and hepatitis B viruses. Hepatitis A and hepatitis B can lead to complications like liver failure, liver cancer, and death. Twinrix contains an inactivated form of the hepatitis A virus and a synthetic part of the hepatitis B virus to produce immunity through antibody production. This vaccine does not contain a live virus.

Twinrix is administered as an injection into the muscle by a doctor or healthcare professional. Adults and children usually receive the injection in the upper arm, and infants receive it in the upper thigh. Your healthcare provider will give you a vaccination schedule, which is usually over a six-month period through a series of three injections.

Talk to your doctor and pharmacist about all of the drugs you use including prescription and over-the-counter medications. Inform your healthcare provider of any health problems you may have, especially if you have a weakened immune system or allergies. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist for medical advice.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions. You can report negative side effects to the FDA.
