What is Tymlos?

Tymlos is a human parathyroid hormone (abaloparatide) that is used to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis. It is also used to decrease the chances of having a fracture of the spine or other bones in postmenopausal women. It is not known if this medication is safe to use on people who are 18 years old and younger. Tymlos is an injection with a recommended use of two years. Do not use Tymlos if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. This medication is not approved for use in pregnant women, children, and young adults whose bones are still growing. Before you use Tymlos tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you may have, including if you have a history of Paget's Disease of the bone or other bone diseases, bone cancer, the presence of an enzyme called alkaline phosphatase in your blood, and if you have or have had too much calcium in your blood. If you are breastfeeding or plan on breastfeeding you also need to tell your doctor so that a decision can be made to do either one as you should not breastfeed while using Tymlos. You should also tell your doctor about all the medications you are using. Be sure to include all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and supplements. Only use Tymlos as it was prescribed by your doctor. Do not take larger or smaller doses or for longer than the recommended period. Tymlos is usually injected once daily under the skin at a different spot each time. Consult your healthcare provider or medication guide for the proper use of Tymlos injection pens.
