Ultravate (halobetasol propionate) is a brand-name prescription medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of skin conditions such as rashes, psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis. This medication is a highly potent steroid that contains high amounts of corticosteroid. Ultravate is a topical steroid that reduces the redness, inflammation, and itching caused by skin conditions. It is only approved for the U.S.e of children over the age of 12 and should only be taken by pregnant or breastfeeding women after consulting a healthcare professional. This medication may increase blood sugar levels and people who have diabetes should constantly test their blood sugar level.
Always remember to read the instruction leaflet and to consult your healthcare provider concerning the correct dosage and frequency for your medical condition. Ultravate is a topical cream that is meant only for use on the skin once or twice daily. Avoid use on face, groin, or underarms and do not apply to a large area of skin unless directed to by your doctor. Covering or bandaging the treated area can increase the amount of medicine absorbed and cause side effects. Do not apply to open wounds or skin that is sunburned, dry, or irritated.
The most common side effects include burning, itching, dryness, and redness. Consult your doctor on how to treat side effects as well as if side effects persist or get worse. Severe allergic reactions to Ultravate are not common. However, immediately contact your healthcare professional should you experience acne, excessive hair growth, skin discoloration, stretch marks, folliculitis, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
An excess of corticosteroid in the bloodstream may occur in children or adults who use Ultravate for an extended period of time. Symptoms for this condition include weight loss, vision problems, swelling ankles, unusual tiredness, and increased urination. This is not a complete list of side effects and more are prone to occur. Seek medical advice from your doctor before starting treatment using Ultravate to make sure it is safe for you to use.
