What is Zolinza?

Zolinza is used to treat a certain type of cancer known as cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). The active ingredient in this medication is vorinostat. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells. This medication is usually given after other treatments have failed or stopped working, or if your condition gets worse after you have used other medications.

This medication is available in the form of oral capsules that can be taken with food, once daily. Swallow these tablets whole; do not crush or chew them. If your skin or eyes come in contact with the powder inside the capsule, wash immediately with plenty of water, and notify your doctor right away. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment.

Drink at least eight glasses of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration while taking this medication. Do not increase your dose or use Zolinza more often than prescribed by your doctor. Your condition will not improve any quicker, and the risk of side effects may be increased. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.

What are the side effects of Zolinza?

Common side effects of Zolinza include loss of appetite, tiredness, weight loss, dry mouth, dizziness, change in the sense of taste, hair loss, headaches, or cough. Notify your doctor right away if these effects persist or worsen. If your doctor has prescribed this medication, it means that they have judged the benefits to you as being greater than the risk of side effects. Most patients using this medication do not experience serious side effects.

In rare cases, this medication may cause your blood sugar levels to rise, which can cause or worsen diabetes. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice symptoms of high blood sugar such as increased thirst or urination. If you are a diabetic, monitor your blood sugar regularly as directed and share your results with your doctor. You may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet.

Ask your doctor or healthcare provider for professional medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Zolinza as this is not a complete list of side effects.
