Cytra-2 is a brand-name prescription drug used to reduce kidney stones, prevent kidney stones, and treat gout or metabolic acidosis. All of these are conditions due to acidic urine. The active ingredients in Cytra-2, sodium citrate, neutralizes the acid in urine. This inhibits the formation of uric acid stones in the kidneys. In a patient with uric acid kidney stones, returning the urine to a normal pH will help dissolve the stones.
Cytra-2 is sometimes prescribed to relieve gout by preventing uric acid crystals from forming in the joints. Cytra-2 is also used to treat metabolic acidosis, or high acid levels in the bloodstream.
