Eemt is a short-term hormone-replacement prescription drug that treats symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and flushes. These symptoms are specifically called “vasomotor” symptoms because they are caused when a particular region of the brain (the vasomotor region) loses the ability to consistently regulate blood pressure as a result of lowered estrogens in the body. Eemt is not intended to prevent bone loss (osteoporosis) as a result of menopause.
The active ingredients in Eemt are a mix of estrogens (esterified estrogens) and a male hormone, methyltestosterone, which plays a role in the body's production of estrogen.
Eemt is taken cyclically (three weeks of daily doses followed by one week off) at the lowest possible dose and is immediately discontinued once it has relieved menopause symptoms.
Common side effects of Eemt include but are not limited to nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, bloating, stomach upset, breast tenderness, weight changes, loss of appetite, sinus and nose problems, vaginal yeast infections, and painful menstruation.
The most serious side effects of Eemt is an increased risk in endometrial cancer, gallbladder problems, and blood clots. Eemt also increases the risk of congenital birth defects in a fetus if taken when the woman is pregnant.
Mental and mood changes include changes in sexual desire, aggression, anxiety, and depression.
Allergic reactions to Eemt are extremely rare but include rashes and hives, among others.
This is not a complete list of side effects that may occur. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist about possible side effects before taking this medicine.
