What is Estarylla?
Estarylla is an FDA-approved birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy. It contains progestin and estrogen, which are two hormones that work mainly by preventing the release of an egg during your menstrual cycle. It also causes your vaginal fluid to become thicker, which helps to prevent sperm from reaching an egg. This medication may also be used to make periods more regular, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, decrease blood loss and painful periods, and treat acne. Read the patient information leaflet that comes with this oral contraceptive before you start using it. Estarylla comes in the form of oral tablets that are taken once daily. It is very important that you use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is very important that you follow the product instructions when using Estarylla. Take your tablets in the correct order, and do not skip any doses. Take Estarylla at the same time every day. Your risk of becoming pregnant increases if you miss a dose of this medication. Consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you are unsure what to do if you miss a dose or doses of Estarylla. If this is the first time that you are using this type of medication, then you should also use an additional form of non-hormonal birth control for at least the first seven days. This will help to prevent pregnancy until the medication has had enough time to work. If you started using this medication on the first day of your period, you do not need to use back-up birth control during the first week of use.
Taking birth control can increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack. Smoking can greatly increase this risk. Do not smoke when taking birth control pills. Women who are over 35 years old and smoke should not take birth control pills.
Birth control pills only prevent pregnancy and do not prevent sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and AIDS.
Before you take Estarylla, tell your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, as well as all of the medicines you take. This includes prescription and OTC drugs, as well as vitamins and supplements.
What are the side effects of Estarylla?
The use of Estarylla may cause side effects such as vomiting, nausea, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, swelling of the ankles or feet, or weight change. Vaginal bleeding between periods may also occur, especially during the first few months of use. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you experience any serious side effects such as lumps in the breast, sudden mood changes, severe stomach pain, unusual changes in vaginal bleeding, sudden heavy bleeding, dark urine, missed periods, or yellowing of the eyes or skin. Allergic reactions are rare, but if you experience hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, get emergency medical help.
This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions. You can report negative side effects to the FDA.
