The active ingredient in Exparel is bupivacaine which is an anesthetic that works by blocking nerve impulses in the body.
Exparel is available in the form of an injectable solution. Exparel is given as an injection placed into an area under the skin near your surgical incision. You will receive this injection in a hospital or surgical setting.
