Jinteli contains two female hormones: an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and progesterone (norethindrone). The progestin in Jinteli helps to reduce the risk of cancer of the uterus which can be caused by using estrogen. Jinteli can be used as a stand-alone hormonal replacement therapy or along with other medications.
Do not use Jinteli if you are allergic to any part of this medication, if you are pregnant, or if you have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, liver disease, or a bleeding disorder. If you have a scheduled major surgery, or if you have ever had a heart attack, a stroke, a blood clot, or cancer of the breast, cervix, or vagina, you should not use Jinteli.
Before using Jinteli tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you may have or if you have a history of bone cancer, hereditary angioedema, liver or kidney disease, lupus, asthma, epilepsy, migraines, or uterine fibroids. You should also perform a self-examination of your breasts for lumps on a monthly basis, and have regular mammograms.
Avoid smoking as it can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack while using this medication. You should also avoid grapefruit products as they may also interact with Jinteli and cause unwanted side effects.
Common side effects of Jinteli include stomach pain, breast pain, bloating or weight gain, headache, and slight vaginal bleeding or spotting.
Jinteli can increase your risk of certain types of cancer and it can also slow breast milk production.
If you have memory problems, confusion, severe headache, blurred vision, stabbing chest pain, slurred speech, vomiting, constipation, dark urine, and increased thirst or urination get immediate medical attention.
If you have signs of an allergic reaction after using Jinteli such as hives, rash, peeling or blistered skin, trouble breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, throat, and tongue you should get to the nearest hospital.
