What is Kamdoy?

Kamdoy is a brand-name prescription skin moisturizer that relieves the symptoms of atopic dermatoses, such as eczema, and allergic contact dermatoses of the skin. Kamdoy is an “emulsion,” which is not as thick as a cream and is more easily and quickly absorbed into the skin.

The active ingredients in Kamdoy are water, copolymer, palm oils, and lidocaine (1%). Copolymer establishes a protective barrier between the skin and the air to prevent moisture evaporation from the skin tissues. Palm oils also protect against evaporation. Lidocaine is a topical anesthetic that numbs the nerves and so relieves pain, itching, and discomfort.

Kamdoy is applied to the affected area as a thin film up to 5 times a day.

What are the side effects of Kamdoy?

Some but not all common side effects of Kamdoy are primarily allergic reactions to the active or inactive ingredients and include skin redness, itching, burning, or irritation.

Lidocaine, the active ingredient in Kamdoy, can be absorbed into the body, especially if Kamdoy is overused. Kamdoy is only meant to be used on a small patch of skin a 3-4 times a day. It is not meant to be used on large skin areas or on blisters, raw areas, or serious wounds where it can be absorbed into the body. An overdose of lidocaine can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening side effects. Always follow the instructions given to you by your doctor or written on the medication's packaging.
