Sertraline is a generic prescription drug used to treat moderate to severe depression and other psychiatric disorders. In addition to depression, Sertraline can be prescribed to treat panic disorder, a condition in which a person experiences recurrent panic attacks. Sertraline is also approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It is commonly used off-label to treat other mental health conditions.

Sertraline belongs to a class of drugs called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). These drugs work by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which may help improve symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions.

What are the side effects of Sertraline?

The most common side effects of Sertraline include:

An allergic reaction to Sertraline is also possible. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, itching, swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing. 

Do not stop taking Sertraline abruptly. Discontinuing the use of Sertraline may lead to withdrawal symptoms, such as anxiety, headache, dizziness, and irritability.
