Peridex is not used for treating all types of gingivitis. If you have periodontitis or mucositis, you may need additional treatment. This antiseptic oral rinse has not been tested for use of persons younger than 18 years old. Peridex may cause severe irritation or chemical burns in young children.

Do not use Peridex oral rinse if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.

You should not add water to the oral rinse or rinse your mouth with water or other mouthwashes for a period of time after using Peridex.

Common side effects of Peridex include mouth irritation, temporary teeth staining, dry mouth, decreased taste, or an unpleasant taste in your mouth.

This medication can cause a rare but serious allergic reaction that could be life-threatening. If you have signs of an allergic reaction such as hives, severe skin rash, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat get immediate medical attention.

You should also inform your doctor if you have white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips or mouth ulcers.
