What is Pimtrea?
Pimtrea is a form of birth control medication used to prevent pregnancy. This medication contains two hormones, progestin, and estrogen. It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg during your menstrual cycle. It also thickens vaginal fluid which helps prevent sperm from reaching an egg and changes the lining of the uterus to prevent the attachment of a fertilized egg.
This medication may also make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Pimtrea does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, gonorrhea, or chlamydia.
Pimtrea comes in the form of an oral tablet and is usually used once daily. It is important to use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Start with the first tablet in the pack, and take them in the correct order. Do not skip any doses. You are more likely to become pregnant if you miss pills, start a new pack late, or take your pill at a different time of the day than usual. No matter what dosing schedule you use, it is very important that you take this medication at the same time each day, 24 hours apart. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
What are the side effects of Pimtrea?
Pimtrea may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, swelling of the ankles or feet, or weight change. Vaginal bleeding may also occur between periods, especially during the first few months of use. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these effects and they persist or worsen. Many patients using this medication do not have any serious side effects.
Pimtrea may rarely cause serious problems from blood clots such as heart attack, pulmonary embolism, and stroke. Seek immediate medical help if you notice serious side effects such as confusion, sudden dizziness, slurred speech, sudden shortness of breath, and unusual headaches.
Serious allergic reactions to this medication are usually rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.
Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider for full medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Pimtrea as this is not a complete list of side effects.
