Noncirrhotic nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a severe form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NASH, which is not caused by alcohol use, involves a buildup of fat in the liver. This causes inflammation and damage and can also lead to liver scarring. Rezdiffra is a prescription drug approved by the FDA to treat adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (or scarring). Rezdiffra is used in combination with diet and exercise.
Rezdiffra is not used in people with cirrhosis of the liver (permanent scarring and damage) or decompensated cirrhosis (an acute deterioration of liver function in a person with advanced liver disease).
The FDA has granted Rezdiffra accelerated approval. The FDA’s Accelerated Approval Program allows for earlier approval of drugs that can treat serious conditions. A continued approval may be contingent on the results of ongoing clinical trials.
