What is Symproic?

Symproic is an FDA-approved prescription medicine that is used for the treatment of opioid-induced constipation (OIC). This medicine belongs to a class of drugs called opioid antagonists. Symproic is usually prescribed to treat constipation in adults taking opioids for long-term chronic pain that is not caused by cancer. Symproic has not been approved for use in persons younger than 18 years old. Symproic may be habit-forming so you should not share your medication with anyone.

You should not use Symproic if you are allergic to any of its active ingredients (naldemedine tosylate), have a stomach or intestinal disorder, a stomach ulcer, or have liver disease.

Before using Symproic you should tell your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions and medications you are using, including herbal supplements, over-the-counter treatments, and vitamins. Providing this list of medications will help to avoid drug interactions or adverse effects associated with Symproic. If you are pregnant or become pregnant while using this medication your baby could have opioid withdrawal symptoms.
