Predicting prescription patterns to lower costs

In the SingleCare Spotlight series, we highlight the people who make SingleCare possible. Whether they work to secure the best savings possible with our partner pharmacies or help send you cards through the mail, every employee at our company is focused on helping you save money on prescription medication.

At SingleCare, we want our customers to save the most they possibly can on their prescriptions. My team and I help figure out how to make that possible by constantly tracking market prices and optimizing our savings. We want people to know that when they use our Rx card, they are getting the most competitive pricing out there.

I create data visualization dashboards, using programs like Tableau. Basically, that means I display certain information as a graph, chart, or map so it’s easy to see patterns—then use those patterns to drive down costs. For example, when we can see that more people are filling prescriptions for heart medication at certain times of year, we can use that information to lower costs. When we can see which heart medication is the most popular, or which medications are typically filled along with heart medications, we can offer discounts on that treatment. My job is all about uncovering those trends so we can help you save the most.

Before I worked here, I didn’t realize there were discounts available on prescriptions. I thought I just had to pay whatever the price was. That hit me hard when I was a student at New York University. When I came to SingleCare, I saw the difference in prices from 70% to 80% less than the cost at the pharmacy counter.

I used to wonder how we were able to give such drastic savings. Now I know about the big margins between what a medication costs to manufacture and what pharmacies sell those medications for—and how SingleCare helps to cut all of those unnecessary markups. I use my SingleCare savings card for my prescriptions, and I recommend it to all of my friends.

I believe this industry is going to grow dramatically. Most of the U.S. population is going to need more prescriptions year over year. Our particular business type is going to help people a lot. It’s good for us. It’s good for the customer. It’s a social benefit.

In the process, SingleCare understands the importance of data. We believe that by predicting future trends, we can help our customers even more.
