What is Deconex DMX?
Deconex DMX is a brand-name prescription combination drug for treating the symptoms of colds, hay fever, and other upper respiratory allergies. Deconex DMX suppresses coughing (antitussive), loosens phlegm and mucus (expectorant), and reduces nasal swelling (nasal decongestant).
The active ingredients in Deconex DMX are dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Dextromethorphan is an opioid that reduces coughing by slowing down the part of the brain that causes coughing. Guaifenesin belongs to a class of drugs called expectorants, which reduce nasal and airway congestion by loosening the mucus that builds up inside the airways. Phenylephrine is a decongestant that reduces the swelling of blood vessels in the nose.
Deconex DMX is taken as a tablet every four hours. The dose will depend on the age of the patient.
