Glatopa is an FDA-approved, branded, generic injection prescribed to adult patients with recurring multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease in which the immune system “misfires” and attacks nerve tissues in the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve, progressively damaging the central nervous system. A branded generic costs less than the brand name, and is officially a generic equivalent, but is assigned a name instead of the chemical name. The way Glatopa works is not entirely understood. It is thought to interfere with the immune processes involved with MS. Continue to our FAQs section for more information about Glatopa and how you can save money on your prescription. Glatopa costs $6,017.65 at full retail price. A SingleCare Glatopa coupon can reduce that price to $1,246.24.

Glatopa is a generic alternative to brand-name Copaxone (Teva) and has the same active ingredient, glatiramer acetate. Mylan also provides a generic version of Copaxone (glatiramer acetate). If you need information about Copaxone or generic glatiramer acetate, search the SingleCare website or app.
Glatopa is a branded generic immune-modulating prescription drug that treats recurrent multiple sclerosis, a disorder that progressively damages the spine, brain, and optic nerve. Multiple sclerosis is an immune system disorder in which healthy nerve tissue is targeted by the immune system as if it were an infection. Specifically, the immune system targets molecules on the surface of the nerve's protective outer layer, the myelin sheath. The immune system steadily destroys the myelin sheath, so the nerve gradually loses the ability to transmit electrical signals down its length and eventually dies. Patients with MS develop scar tissue (sclerosis) throughout the central nervous system as nerve tissue is damaged.
The active ingredient in Glatopa, glatiramer, is thought to interfere with the immune process that causes MS.
Glatopa is injected below the skin on the arms, abdomen, hips, or thighs once per day (20 mg/mL prescription) or three days a week (40 mg/mL prescription). Before taking Glatopa, review your medical history and medications you take (including Rx, OTC, vitamins, and supplements) with your doctor.
The most common side effects of Glatopa are site reactions to the injection, including pain, swelling, redness, or a hard lump.
Other common side effects of Glatopa include, but are not limited to, nausea, vomiting, weakness, redness, rash, flushing, lightheadedness, flushing, tight throat, heart palpitations, and chest pain (in about 13% of patients). Call your doctor right away if you have chest pain or skin changes after the injection. Mental and mood changes include anxiety. Allergic reactions are rare. If you experience any allergic reactions to Glatopa, such as rash, itching, hives, or wheezing, or swelling around the face/lips, get emergency medical attention. This is not a full list of side effects. Talk to your doctor about what side effects to expect and how to address them.
Consult your healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding side effects and drugs interactions.
