One injection can last for up to six months. Monovisc is the only non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid injection currently on the U.S. market. It is similar to the fluid that surrounds the joints in your body and it acts as a lubricant and shock absorber for the joints. Monovisc is usually given after other arthritis medications have been tried without success.
Before you use Monovisc tell your doctor about any other medical conditions you may have including allergies, if you have any blood disorders, or if you have a knee infection. If you are taking any kind of treatment or medication you need to tell your doctor including all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Monovisc should only be used as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Monovisc is not approved for use by anyone under the age of 21. Avoid any strenuous activity or sports for the first 48 hours after your Monovisc injection.
