Is there a generic of Nulev?

Nulev is a brand-name prescription drug manufactured by Meda Pharmaceuticals. The generic version of this drug is hyoscyamine-sulfate.

What is Nulev?

Nulev is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to treat a variety of stomach problems such as cramps and irritable bowel syndrome. It may also be used to treat other conditions such as bladder and bowel control problems, cramping caused by gallstones and kidney stones, and Parkinson's disease. Nulev works by decreasing the production of acid in the stomach, slowing down the natural movements of the gut, and relaxing muscles in many organs such as the stomach, intestines, bladder, kidney, and gallbladder. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as anticholinergics/antispasmodics

Nulev comes in the form of an oral tablet which is usually placed on the tongue to dissolve before swallowing. Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or use it more often than prescribed without checking with your doctor.

Antacids lower the absorption of Nulev in your body. If you need to use antacids, take them after meals and use Nulev before meals, or take antacids one hour after using Nulev. Drink plenty of fluids when taking this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have glaucoma, trouble urinating, myasthenia gravis, overactive thyroid, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, heart disease, or autonomic neuropathy before you start taking Nulev. Store this medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

What are the side effects of Nulev?

Nulev may cause dry eyes, dizziness, drowsiness, fast heartbeat, blurred vision, dry mouth, headaches, constipation, trouble sleeping, flushing, dry skin, and decreased sweating. This drug may increase the risk of heatstroke because it decreases sweating. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these effects and they persist or worsen. Many patients using this medication do not have any serious side effects.

Serious allergic reactions to this medication are usually rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.

Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider for full medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Nulev as this is not a complete list of side effects.
