Rymed is indicated for temporary relief of symptoms caused by the common cold, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), or other upper respiratory allergies. This product combines dexchlorpheniramine maleate, an antihistamine, and phenylephrine, a nasal decongestant. Dexchlorpheniramine maleate works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. It also blocks another natural substance made by your body (acetylcholine). Blocking acetylcholine helps lessen symptoms such as watery eyes and runny nose. While phenylephrine works by decreasing swelling in the nose and ears, thereby lessening discomfort and making it easier to breathe.
This drug is not for you if you are currently taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug.
