What is Entresto?

Entresto is an FDA-approved prescription medication that contains a combination of sacubitril and valsartan. It works by widening blood vessels, promoting better blood flow, and reducing stress on the heart. • ARBs such as Benicar (olmesartan), Cozaar (losartan), or Diovan (valsartan)

• Lithium

• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, Celebrex (celecoxib), Mobic (meloxicam), Motrin (ibuprofen), and naproxen

• Potassium-sparing diuretics such as Aldactone (spironolactone) or triamterene

• Potassium supplements

• Tekturna (aliskiren)—this drug should not be taken with Entresto in patients with diabetes

When should you not take Entresto? 

You should not take Entresto if you:

• Are allergic to sacubitril, valsartan, or any inactive component of Entresto

• Take an ACE inhibitor or ARB drug

• Have diabetes and take a medicine called Tekturna (aliskiren) 

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

• Have severe liver problems

What can I take instead of Entresto? 

Entresto contains two drugs in one pill: sacubitril, which is a neprilysin inhibitor, and valsartan, which is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). While there are no other drugs in this class that contain both drugs in one pill, there are other alternatives that can be used for heart failure.
