Trumenba is a brand-name vaccine that provides active immunity from bacterial meningitis, an infection of the membranes (meninges) that cover the brain and provide a barrier between the brain and the rest of the body.

Bacterial meningitis is caused by the bacteria, Neisseria meningitidis, which can also infect the bloodstream. The active ingredients in the vaccine are carbohydrates that line the surface of the bacteria cell. The body mounts an immune response as if it were actually being attacked by living bacteria.
