Altreno, generically named tretinoin, is a brand prescription drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of acne. It is classified as a retinoid moisturizer and is a naturally occurring form of vitamin A and affects the growth of skin cells. Altreno decreases the amount and severity of pimples and works to heal the skin to prevent more from developing. Altreno is recommended for patients nine years and older. It is meant for topical use only and persons should avoid contact with the mouth, eyes and inside the nose.
Altreno is meant to be applied once daily after proper cleaning of the desired area. Do not apply to skin that has been damaged, has a sunburn or is affected by eczema. When on treatment using Altreno, wear sunscreen and protective clothing for skincare. Increasing the frequency of use does not improve the results. Results may take eight to twelve weeks to appear and acne symptoms may appear to worsen at first.
Remember to consult your healthcare provider on what medications can be taken along with Altreno. Store Altreno at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
It is important to remember to consult your doctor about what medications and foods should be taken when using Altreno in order to avoid side effects. The most common side effects include itching, dryness, redness, increased acne symptoms, or mild burning. Consult your doctor on how to treat side effects as well as if side effects persist or get worse. Severe allergic reactions to Altreno are not common. However immediately contact your healthcare professional should you experience blistering, crusting, conjunctivitis or skin discoloration.
This is not a complete list of side effects. And more are prone to occur. You can report unlisted side effects to the FDA. Seek medical advice from your doctor to make sure Altreno is safe for you to use. You can also ask for additional information on Altreno before you start treatment.
