This medication works by replacing estrogen that the body would normally make.
This medication comes in the form of a 0.06% transdermal gel. It must be applied only to clean, dry, unbroken skin. You should not apply this medication to skin that is red or irritated. Elestrin is usually applied once daily to the upper arm with the use of a metered-dose pump. Talk to your doctor to find out more about how to go about using this medication and about the dose that is right for you.
Your doctor may decide on your dose based on your current medical condition and your body's response to the medication. This medication should not be applied to your breasts and it should not be used if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor if you have a medical history of heart attacks, strokes, or blood clots before you start taking this medication.
